What to Expect - The Flight Process

Flight Check-in phone call

45 minutes prior to your flight meeting time you will need to make a quick call to the flight check-in number. During this call you will listen to a message from your pilot confirming if the weather forecast is suitable for your flight to proceed. Details for your flight check-in appear on your flight ticket.

Meeting

Your pilots and crew will be on hand to welcome you when you arrive at the Canberra Hyatt Hotel at the designated time. See how the pilot checks the morning’s local winds conditions and listen while he or she gives you a short flight briefing.

Departure

Your adventure begins with a short trip to your launch site. This is determined by your pilot and depends on the wind direction on the morning. We have over a dozen launch sites to choose from all around Canberra. This is a good opportunity to get to know your pilot and crew and ask any questions your may have.

Inflation

It takes around 20-25 minutes for the balloon to be inflated and standing upright ready for boarding. You are welcome to help with the setup of the balloon or simply stand back and take photos as your aircraft takes shape and comes to life.

Dawn lift-off!

As the new day dawns, you will ascend into the sky in your colourful balloon. Your balloon will float gently along the breeze, whilst in your basket you will feel completely secure with very little sensation of movement. During your flight you may find yourself drifting just above the treetops then moments later effortlessly ascending to heights of 2000 feet or more.

Landing

After approximately one hour you will be greeted by your ground crew as you touch back down to earth. The balloon is packed away with lots of laughs, then you hop back into our vehicles and we return to the Canberra Hyatt for a champagne celebration.

Champagne Celebration

The excitement of the morning continues over a champagne celebration back at the Canberra Hyatt Hotel. Relax and enjoy a glass of champagne with your fellow passengers and you pilot as you celebrate one of the most exhilarating mornings of your life. You may also choose to stay for the delicious breakfast at the Hyatt after the flight.

A Balloon Aloft Gift Voucher makes an ideal gift for any occasion. Our Gift Vouchers are available from each of our five flight locations and are valid for 12 months, making it a breeze for the gift recipient to book in at a time convenient to them.

1. Select a Voucher Type & Location

Make your selection from our five beautiful flight locations. Weekday, Weekend and private flight for two (we call them our VIP flight) voucher options are available from most locations. With our vouchers offering the flexibility of being transferable -although upgrades may be payable- between any of our five flight locations, you can't go wrong.

2. Voucher delivery

Vouchers can be personalised with a message for the recipient during the booking process, then simply make your selection from the delivery options. All Gift Vouchers will automatically be sent by email immediately at the completion of your voucher order. You may also choose to have the voucher express posted in a Balloon Aloft voucher pack or for that special occasion, vouchers can be delivered in your choice of a helium balloon gift box or a Balloon Aloft teddy bear gift box. No matter which delivery option you choose, your Gift Voucher will arrive with all the instructions the recipient will need to proceed in booking their exciting Balloon Aloft adventure.

3. Possibility of Cancellation due to Weather

Ballooning is a weather dependant activity so flights may be cancelled if weather conditions are unsuitable or deemed unsafe by the pilot. If the recipients flight is cancelled they can simply call the office on 1300 723 279 to reschedule another flight date anytime within the 12 month validity period of the voucher, however these vouchers are non-refundable.

Flight & Flexi Voucher Process

Whether you live near our flight region, visit the region often or are traveling here from interstate or abroad our flight vouchers have flexible options to suit everyone. Flight vouchers and/or Flexi Vouchers are offered from each of our five flight locations and are all valid for 12 months. For that added peace of mind, upgrade to a Flexi Voucher to ensure that you can receive a refund - if rescheduling for an alternative date is not an option for you- in the event of a weather cancellation.

1. Select a Location & Flight date

Our sunrise flights are offered from five beautiful flight locations in NSW, QLD and the ACT. You can view and select location options and availability by clicking the BOOK NOW button. Simply chose the location you wish to fly from and then select the date you wish to fly on.

HANDY TIP- Discounts apply for weekday tickets in some locations. For our best value option try selecting a weekday flight.

2. Flight voucher or Flexi voucher?

During the booking process you will have the option to choose either a Non-Refundable Flight Voucher or a Refundable Flexi voucher. The Flexi Voucher option is recommended for those visiting from interstate or overseas, who only have a short period of time to use their ticket. By selecting this option you will ensure that in the event of your flight being cancelled due to unsuitable weather, your ticket price can be refunded to you upon request less a small administration fee.

3. Flight confirmation

At the completion of your booking your flight confirmation and instructions will be emailed to you. The night before your flight you will need to call the flight confirmation number (provided on your confirmation email) to check if the weather is suitable for your flight to proceed. Your exact meeting time and details will be confirmed at this time.
