The annual Balloon Aloft Hunter Valley Fiesta will take to the skies over the Hunter Valley from the 28th September to 1st October 2018 in an amazing display of colour and excitement! Each day will see upward of twenty-five hot air balloons from all around the country launch together at sunrise and float majestically over the Hunter Valley wine country. Come join in the excitement as a passenger or follow along from the ground.
The best way to view the hot air balloon festival is definitely as passengers on board one of the twenty-five or more balloons that will take to the skies at sunrise each morning. You can book your space on one of our fiesta flights for the experience of a life time; the excitement begins just before dawn as more than twenty hot air balloons are inflated in the launch field - make sure to have your camera ready, it's quite the spectacle - then take off and drifting over the Hunter Valley vineyards for an hour in the company of a fleet of hot air balloons. Celebrations continue after the flight back at Peterson House Winery with live music, a gourmet breakfast and a champagne tasting to wrap up an exciting and fun-filled morning.
Your ticket includes:
Meeting Time: To be confirmed closer to event. This event is weather dependent so follow and check the event Facebook page – Balloon Aloft Hunter Valley Fiesta - for the weather confirmation each evening.
Where: Peterson House which is located on the corner of Broke Road and Wine Country Drive, Pokolbin.
What to do when you arrive: Please note we will be flying over 100 passengers each day of the fiesta and these passengers will be busy checking in for their flight. To avoid any confusion on the day, please follow staff directions to the Spectator Parking area. Parking Attendants will be on hand to guide you to where you can park. Staff will then guide you to the Spectator Briefing area.
Spectator Briefing: During the Spectator briefing you will be advised of the launch location and expected flight path of the balloons as advised by the pilots, as well as any instructions for the morning in regards access to launch site, parking etc.
Drive to Launch Location: Following the Spectator briefing and our Senior Pilot’s briefing to passengers, we will drive in convoy to our chosen launch location. The launch site location will be dictated by the direction of the wind on the morning so will not be known prior to the day. Spectator vehicles should join the end of the convoy, after the balloon vehicles.
Once at the launch location please follow the instructions of the Parking Attendants who will be conducting parking and vehicle movement. Only Balloon Aloft and our private balloon pilots’ vehicles will be allowed to drive on to the launch site for safety reasons.
Access to the Launch Site: There will be some ballooning vehicle movement during the initial set up of the balloons. Please follow staff instructions when you arrive at the launch site and remain in the Spectator Area until staff indicate that it is safe to move around the launch site. Once you have been given permission to move around the launch site, please feel free to walk around amongst the balloons so you can begin taking photographs of the inflation and launch. The inflation and launch of our 25+ balloons is always a spectacular sight and will no doubt provide some stunning photographic opportunities.
NB. Our Balloon Aloft Support Crew will be wearing yellow or pink vests. Please follow any directions they might give you on the day in regards to safety when moving around the launch site area.
During the Fiesta: Once the balloons are in the air you will be able to follow along from the ground in your vehicles. The Support Crew are in radio contact with the Balloon Pilot and will have the best idea of where they will be landing so follow along the designated crew vehicle on the morning for the best viewing and photographic opportunities. Please remember to take due care when pulling off or onto the road.
Landing Location: You are welcome to watch the landing and pack up of the balloons from the road, however permission for spectator entry is at the discretion of the landowner. Please do not access private property without the permission of the landowner.
Drones: Balloon Aloft have official drone operators on site for the Balloon Fiesta. They will have full access to the site so we ask that there are no other drones operating within the immediate fiesta area without permission from Balloon Aloft.
Social Media: Please use event hashtags #balloonaloftfiesta and #huntervalleyballoonfiesta with any photos you share on social media.
Vehicles and belongings: No responsibility can be taken by Balloon Aloft for any personal belongings or vehicles of spectators during the fiesta. Participation as a spectator of the fiesta will be undertaken at your own risk.
